Hi Mrs. K-T’s classes!

So happy to have the opportunity to visit with you on Skype the other day! Curiosity is a very good thing to have! I am very happy to hear you are using the book, or at least what we have made to this point. I think it’s going to be a real cool book when it’s done.
Writing a book is a lot of work, but is also very fun! Ms. Tharp and I looked at other books and spent time talking about the kinds of things students might like to see or read. I was 38 when I decided to start following this new path, seems just like yesterday!
Adding a poem is a very interesting idea! Thanks. Yes, tigers and lions would be fun to add.
I went SCUBA diving in Fiji, that was the first time I ever went swimming with sharks. I never felt in danger. I don’t have a favorite place to visit, because everywhere I go I see new and interesting things and people. A virtual field trip is another good idea, something that maybe I could add once the book is done.
Great to have you along for the journey!
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Mrs. K-T’s mountain forest habitat group!

Thanks for the entry on my blog and kind words, it is much appreciated. My newts never got names, they died, bummer. If you were to name a newt, what do you think would be a good name?
It has taken almost two years to get this book ready, that’s because at the same time I am busy doing other things like traveling and answering emails.
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Liam and Joseph,
It’s good you are so curious about habitats! The cobra was a young one, but when it raised its head, the hood opened up just the same way it does on adult cobras.
The desert was hot (110 degrees) in the day and so cold at night we needed sleeping bags.
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Mrs. K-T’s ocean habitat group!

Thanks for the entry on my blog and kind words, it is much appreciated. No, I didn’t pet a golden monkey, they’re wild animals who probably wouldn’t like to be petted. I once saw whales off the coast of Australia, but they weren’t sperm whales. The only squid I have seen were at fish markets waiting to be sold. Good questions ! How many of you have seen an ocean?
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Mrs. K-T’s lake habitat group!

Thanks for the entry on my blog and kind words, it is much appreciated. I don’t really have a favorite animal, I think they’re all pretty cool. I haven’t seen a anaconda yet, but when I go to South America to float the Amazon, maybe I will see one! No X-Ray fish yet. Bummer. I have swam with black tipped reef sharks, not great white sharks yet.
What is your favorite animal?
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Mrs. K-T’s desert habitat group!

Thanks for the entry on my blog and kind words, it is much appreciated. That’s really cool that you love the book so far, Ms Tharp and I have been working really hard on it. Aren’t newts cool?! The book has been fun to write, because it has provided a chance to learn about all kinds of cool things about animals. It also has given me the chance to relive some parts of my journey as I explored animals the world. I am happy to have you along for the journey!
My question is, what is about those pages that you like?
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Mrs. K-T’s Rain forest Group!

Thank you for the entry on my blog and kind words, it is much appreciated.
As a person who studies biology, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite animal because the world has so many cool animals to observe, watch and learn about. Publishing a book is a big job. Choosing photos, researching and learning about the animals, writing up the journal entry was especially fun for me. I’m happy to know you like the pages from the book. Ms Tharp and I have worked really hard to create something fun to read. My question to you is; what is it about those pages that you like?
Cheers,
Dean

Kathy Kennedy-Tuchfeld

Hi Mr. Jacobs,
This is Mrs. KT's second and third grade class at Highland Elementary in Centennial, Colorado. We really enjoyed having you skype with us yesterday. You have made us very curious about the travels, animals, and pictures that you have shown us. We are using your ABC book as a mentor text to learn how to write in the ABC genre. Our goal is to write our own ABC habitat books. Destin would like to know more about how to publish a book. Mrs. KT would like to know more about what age you were when you decided to follow this path. Isaac suggests you consider writing a poem and taking pictures of a lion and a tiger for next time. Joseph wants to know how you got to swim with the sharks. Were you in danger? We would also like to know what has been your favorite place to visit? Have you ever considered making a virtual field trip for kids to the places you visit? You could do this through a narrated slide show. You are such a valuable resource to us. We also feel so lucky to have your co-author, Ms. Tharp here at Highland with us.

Your friends at Highland and fellow learners,
Mrs. KT's Class
