Ice storm hits Nebraska

Winter weather is unleashing a slippery ice storm in eastern Nebraska.  If you have no where to go and are not in any kind of hurry, it can be quiet beautiful.

Below are a few images from Wednesday afternoon and evening. 

  Almost as if someone froze the rain in motion.

Crunch went the grass as I walked across the top.

 

Simple and beautiful.

This is why we have indoor driers. 

 

It's so cold even Frosty has a runny nose.

Fremont Middle School -7th Grade

When I returned from my first trip around the world in 2003, I went to the Fremont Middle school and asked the Principal and VP, who was a friend of mine if the students might be interested in hearing some stories from abroad.  This is how the school programs began.

Last Friday I had the opportunity to visit with the 7th grade teams once again.

Winter storm in Nebraska.

Winter time in Nebraska can be harsh even deadly at times.  But as in most things, it's never completely black and white, or snow white as the case is today.  Beautiful scenes from a white winter day.

Snow clings to the seed pod of a weed at the Fremont State Lakes.

Fremont Middle School -6th Grade

Once a year I do a special presentation about my adventure through Central and South America for the Fremont Middle School 6th grade teams.  It is a special day and a special program for a cool group of students and teachers.   The presentation supports the curriculum for the social studies teachers.

Over  five months in 2004, I crossed 11 countries, hopped over 15 international borders, added Guinea pig and Lama to my cuisine list, saw breath-taking scenery, looked nature in the eye, discovered ancient civilizations, encountered countless numbers of ordinary kind people that will never make the news and a couple of bad ones that make good travel stories.  Stories that offer teachable moments!

A quick photo study

I had 20 minutes to shoot photos as I waited for my friend Jim on my brothers ranch in Spencer NE.    The sun was out, the wind was calm and at the end of the day, the light was perfect.     

There is nothing earth shaking special about these photos, it was a challenge I gave to myself to see what I could capture before my friend showed up.

I would be interested in hearing which one you like best and why.
