Dean Jacobs

Hi Lillie,
Thank you for the post on my blog.
I am not sure how many mates Pablo had, but for sure it was many, since it was the largest group ever to be studied. A group can have several male gorillas, but only one is the leader. Some groups had up to five adult male gorillas. Titus's parents were probably killed by poachers, it was a very unstable time in Rwanda.
Do you want to see gorillas in the wild one day?
Cheers,
Dean

Darian

Dear Dean,
Yes,I have always wanted to travel the world and see gorillas.I already like to explore new places and try new foods that are diffrent than ours.
I've been to Wyoming,Montana,Californa,Florda,Louisana,and Kentucky.What d
do you want to do after you travel the world.I'll see you soon!
Bye

Dean Jacobs

Hi Darian,
Thank you for the post on my blog. Sometimes gorillas join other groups because they feel they might have a better chance at getting protection. I don’t know the oldest age of a gorilla, I did see a female gorilla that was 42 years old. I love traveling around the world and the chance to try new and different things, eating new and different foods. Learning and growing is something we spend our whole life doing!
Do you want to see gorillas in the wild one day?
Cheers,

Hi Luke,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I saw Titus last spring in Rwanda. I am not sure what T.I.M. is actually. You will have to explain that one to me.
Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Hi Maddie,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I am happy you are enjoying all of the activities Ms Tharp has organized for your school. I did not see where Titus died, it happened after I returned to the United States. I hope to learn more about what happened to Titus soon.
Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Hi Joey,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I’m not sure how Pablo got his name, but will find out. Will you remember to ask me when I come to visit Highland? I am happy to know you are learning so much about gorillas. Yes, Nebraska won the game in the photos on my blog.

Hi Cam,
Thank you for the post on my blog web site. Nice to hear from you again. Yes, Titus was very playful when he was young. I have eaten bamboo in a Chinese restaurant. I went to the game web site, but don’t have any free time to play, but good luck.

Hi Callie,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. Gorillas in Africa are cool, they are playful, strong, funny and protective. I will tell you more about them when I come to Highland. I’ve been to Africa three times, 2003, 2007 and 2009.
Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. Gorillas eat just like you and I do, they chew their food and swallow! When Titus was the king of the group, he protected everyone in it. Gorillas adjust to thin air just you and I do, slowly over time. Well, I guess gorillas are famous, especially since there are only 720 mountain gorillas left in the whole world. I am looking forward to having lunch with all of you too!
Do you want to see the gorillas one day?

Hi Sydney,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I am happy to know you are learning so much about gorillas. Mountain gorillas eat salad because there is lots of it available on the mountains where they live. Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Trent,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. Titus died because he was old and his body finally got tried and worn out. Gorillas adjust to the thin air just you and I do over time. Dian started her research because she loved gorillas. I guess some gorillas sing when they are happy, just like you and I do when we are really happy at times!
Do you want to see gorillas in the wild one day?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Thaddeus,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I saw Titus two times, four hours each time. In the beginning it was hard for me to breath in the mountains because the thin air lacks oxygen. I did not touch Titus, I always tried to keep my distance so I would give the gorillas a sickness. I saw some gorillas fight, but never Titus, he was a gentle gorilla.

Dean Jacobs

Hi Angela,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog.
Some of the other gorillas in the group decided to follow Kuryama after the fight and some followed Titus, they went separate ways in the forest. The babies stay close to their moms because it takes three years to prepare them to be on their own in the forest. I did not see Titus dead because I had returned back to the United States when he died. I am happy to know you are learning so much about gorillas.
Do you want to see them one day?
Cheers,
Dean

Dean Jacobs

Hi Charlie,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. Gorillas adjust to thin air just like people do. I have been touched by a gorilla, but I always try to keep my distance to reduce the chance of giving him a sickness. I am happy you are learning so much about mountain gorillas. Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Grace,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. The young silverbacks will fight to determine who the new leader is and sometimes they are just fine with not being the leader but a part of the group. To be in the middle of two charging silverbacks was pretty exciting. I’m happy to know you are learning so much about gorillas.
Do you want to see them in the wild one day?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Quinten,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I never saw Titus fight any other gorilla. The gorillas are pretty tough, so when they land on the ground they do pretty well. But, sometimes they do get hurt.
Do you want to see gorillas one day Quinten?
Cheers,
Dean

Dean Jacobs

Hi Lily,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I don’t know how many offspring Titus had, but I will ask. Will you remember to ask me when I come to Highland? I did see him and took the photos you saw on my blog. Titus died of old age and natural causes. The people wanted to see Titus because he was such a cool gorilla. Titus didn’t hurt people, that was part of why he was fun to visit.
Do you want to see gorillas one day?

Hi Drew,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. I lived in a house with the scienctists who studied the mountain gorillas. I ate good food, fresh vegetables from the garden, beef, chicken, goat. We had a house-keeper who took very good care of me. Titus just looked at me for a moment or two and went back to eating his food. I never saw Titus fight.
I’m happy to know you are learning so much gorillas!

Thank you for the post on my blog. I don’t know how many teeth gorillas have, but I will find out. Will you remember to ask me when I come to visit Highland?
Titus did fight when he had too, but mostly he was a very gentle gorilla. I have seen young gorillas fall out of tress when they were playing. I did get to see/hear the gorillas sing, it was very cool!

Hi Cody,
Thank you for the post on my web site blog. The gorillas get adjusted to the thin air just like people do when they go high into the mountains. I’m happy to know you are learning so much gorillas!
Do you want to see them one day in the wild?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Juliha,
Thank you for the post on my blog. Titus ignored people probably because he wasn’t threatened by their presence. Yes, the Pablo group is huge! I’m happy you are learning a lot about gorillas, that will help them survive.
Do you want to see gorillas one day in the wild?

Dean Jacobs

Hi Lainee,
Thank you for your post on my blog site. To be with Titus was like being in the presence of a king, he always seemed to have a special dignity in how he behaved. Knowing about Titus was cool in the sense that he is one of the most famous of all mountain gorillas. Gorillas walk on their hands because of the weight of their upper body. When the king of the gorilla group dies, he is eventually replaced by someone in his group or from outside the group. I’m happy to hear you think gorillas are interesting, I think they are too! Do you want to see gorillas in the wild one day?
Cheers,
Dean

Darian

Dear Mr. Dean,
You might remember me from last year, it's Darian! I have written a few letters to you on your blog. This year we are learning about Titus and other gorillas from your website and from the Gorilla King DVD. I thought it was cool how Titus started singing when he found good leaves to eat and the other gorillas started singing too. I learned that mountain gorillas like to protect their territory. I am wondering why a gorilla would join another possy. And what is the oldest age of a gorilla?
You have done so much traveling around the world. What is it like to learn new languages and try new foods?
Your friend,
Darian

Lillie

Dear Mr. Jacobs,
I'm a fourth grade student at Highland Elementary School and I am interested in mountain gorillas. Today I learned that Pablo had 65 gorillas in his group, the largest group ever recorded. I love your website. It was sad when Titus had to get buried. I was just wondering, can I ask a question? Good. How many wives did Pablo have? How many men can be in one group? One more question, what happened to Titus' parents?
Thanks Dean!
From,
Lillie
