I just completed my first week in Africa. Yeah! Several people have expressed concern about my safety and location. Do not worry, I am in good company with the Dian Fossey organization. Also please remember, the only information that makes it to the news screen is the bad stuff. There are many amazing and good things happening in the day to day lives of people here. These I plan to share with you.
Rwandan countryside.
Three weeks of quarantine must pass before I will be allowed to spend time with the gorillas. The reason this procedure is followed is to protect the animals from the possibility of becoming sick with an illness that I could be carrying inside.
This is providing a window of opportunity for me to get adjusted to my new surroundings.
This is the gate to the office for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. It is also where my office space will be located.
This is my room at the Karisoke office. Clean and tidy! The house where I am staying is right across the street from the office. A very short commute. As you can see it is not a mud hut. Although I wouldn't mind having that type of experience. But to work on my photos and writing, I need a space where I can concentrate.
Me in my room. Notice the net draped over the bed. What do you think that is for?
This guy greeted me at the hotel Wednesday evening. I prefer to see them in the wild.
Cheers,
Dean
